2019 - 2020 Season

Picture
INTO THE WOODS
Directed by Melissa Williams

Musical Direction by Ian Matheson
Performances scheduled for February 21 - March 1, 2020 at CenterStage Black Box Theatre in Louisville.

An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Riding Hood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're all among the characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fractured fairy tale story INTO THE WOODS. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

July 12-16, 2019
Dairy Arts Center
, Boulder, CO

Director:  EB Kolbrener

Music by Jeanine Tesori
Book and Lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire

Everyone’s favorite upside-down fairytale comes to Boulder when CenterStage’s Tapestry Theatre presents Shrek the Musical, JR a song-and dance-filled stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film. Shrek the Musical (which premiered on Broadway in 2008) stays true to the children’s book by William Steig where dragons are friendly, swamps are better than castles, and the true hero isn’t handsome or noble but a grouchy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside ogre who is more or less content with himself and his life in a swamp.

He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music.
