THE BASICS
CenterStage offers programs for students in grades 2 through 12. Our productions and classes are generally grouped into two divisions:
No experience is necessary. CenterStage is a place for discovery. We pride ourselves on being a supportive learning environment where beginners can find their voice and experienced actors can sharpen their craft. From 2nd grade to 12th, there is a place for every student to start their journey with us.
That's completely normal, and some of our most confident performers started out feeling the same way. CenterStage is a learning environment first. Our instructors are experienced at helping students come out of their shell at their own pace. There's no pressure to be "ready" on day one. Many parents tell us that the transformation they see in their child's confidence is the most rewarding part of the whole experience.
Most of our productions are musicals. We also offer non-musical productions, primarily for our youngest students.

WHAT TO EXPECT
It depends on the program. Most of our performance classes don't require an audition to enroll — every student gets a part, and roles are cast during the first few days of class. Our mainstage productions do require an audition before enrollment, and no tuition is due unless your child is cast. For full details on what to expect and how to prepare, visit our Auditions and Casting page.
It depends on the program. Most non-camp productions only call actors for the scenes they're in, so your child won't necessarily be at every rehearsal.
Summer camps run Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, for either one week (drama workshops) or two weeks (musicals), with performances on the second Saturday.
School-year productions typically rehearse two weekday evenings and one weekend day over 5 to 8 weeks, depending on the show.
Mainstage productions are the biggest commitment, running about six to eight weeks with evening and weekend rehearsals, plus a full week of tech and dress rehearsals before opening.
Each program page lists its specific rehearsal and performance schedule, so you can check for conflicts before registering.
YES!! Performance is the cornerstone of the CenterStage experience. We want every student to feel the thrill of the lights and the applause. Depending on the program, our students enjoy multiple opportunities to shine:
The first day is all about getting comfortable. Students will meet their director and castmates, and most groups kick off with some fun getting-to-know-you activities.
In summer programs, auditions for roles happen quickly, usually on the first or second day, since rehearsal time is shorter. During the school year, most productions won't hold auditions until the second meeting, so there's a little more time to settle in.
We get it -- kids are busy! Some conflicts early in the rehearsal process can usually be worked around. At the start of each production, we'll provide a conflict sheet so we can plan the schedule as effectively as possible. The key is communicating conflicts to staff as early as you can so we can make the best use of everyone's time. That said, rehearsals are where the cast builds the show together, and consistent attendance really matters. If a student misses an excessive number of rehearsals, their role may need to be adjusted or recast at the director's discretion to keep things fair for the rest of the cast. For more details on attendance expectations, check out our Policies & Expectations page.
PRACTICAL DETAILS
Tuition varies by program. One-week summer camps typically range from $500 to $600, and two-week summer musicals from $700 to $900. School-year productions start around $600.
For mainstage productions that require an audition, no tuition is due unless your child is cast.
You can find specific pricing on each program's page. Browse our Theatre Productions and Summer Camps pages for current pricing.
We believe that cost should never be a barrier to a child's participation in theatre. Financial assistance is available on a case-by-case basis. If your family could use support, please reach out to us at info@centerstagetheatrecompany.org or (303) 529-2782 and we'll work with you.
Once registration is complete, we are unable to offer refunds, credits, or exchanges. We encourage families to review program details and schedules carefully before registering. If CenterStage cancels a program, a full refund will be provided.
Rehearsals and most performances take place at our home, the CenterStage Black Box Theatre at 901 Front Street in Louisville. Select productions, including our summer mainstage, perform at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, with tech and dress rehearsals held there as well. Each program page specifies its venue. For directions and parking details, visit our Directions & Parking page.
The CenterStage Black Box Theatre seats 65, or up to 75 when we add an extra front row. We also perform regularly at the Grace Gamm Theatre at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, which seats 117.

OUR PROGRAMS
Theatre Productions are our school-year programs, running several weeks with rehearsals leading up to multiple performances.
Summer Theatre Camps are one- and two-week daytime programs (9am to 4pm) where students rehearse and perform a show in a concentrated, camp-style format.
Classes and Workshops focus on skill-building and are offered throughout the year as scheduling allows.
All three put students on stage, but productions involve the longest commitment and the most performances. Browse our Theatre Productions, Summer Camps, and Classes & Workshops pages to see what's currently available.
Tapestry Theatre is CenterStage's all-abilities theatre program, founded in 2012. Tapestry casts actors with special needs in lead roles alongside peer ensemble members, creating a collaborative experience where everyone performs together on stage. The program includes a summer musical, a winter all-ages show, and classes for newcomers. To learn more, visit our Tapestry Theatre page.
